Desirable Criteria
These are linked to best practice and it is suggested that companies and organisations work towards including them in their no-smoking policy

  • All company vehicles to be smoke free
  • All vehicles being used for company business are smoke free
  • It is preferable that those who hold the Award do not sell cigarettes and companies and organisations should give every consideration to this issue

Recommendations
The National Clean Air Award would recommend that companies or organisations who apply for or hold the Silver Award take care to ensure they do to not appear to promote smoking:

  • Consideration should be given to the sites chosen for shelters and areas. Do companies and organisations wish the first sight to greet clients, customers, visitors or patient to be a group of smokers?
  • When designated smoking shelters or areas are provided who is entitled to use them, is it appropriate for staff of medical or health facilities to smoke whilst on duty?
  • If staff of medical or health facilities are entitled to smoke, are they required to change or cover their uniforms whilst doing so?
