We are a Swedish company providing systems that capture 100% of the cigarette smoke and filter it very thoroughly before returning clinically clean air. We specialise in the workplace and other difficult areas such as airports.

Our units discourage smokers from taking long breaks and having 2 or 3 cigarettes per break, and as their clothes and hair don't smell after using the unit this gives them another incentive to quit.

I would suggest a visit to our website www.smokefreesystems.com
We would be happy to provide further information or perhaps arrange a visit to see some working units.

Dear Bernard,

Thank you for your email with relation to you companies product - with which I am already familiar.  The National Clean Air Award is an initiative by the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation an international charity dedicated to the reducing the incidence of lung cancer.  The aims of the award are
  • To reduce public and workplace exposure to secondhand smoke
  • To support the implementation of effective no smoking policies
  • To broaden the agenda and make the introduction of no smoking policies attractive to business
  • To support those working to encourage employers introduce no smoking policies
  • To provide an environment where smokers who wish to stop can be supported and encouraged
  • Recognise and reward the introducation of no-smoking policies
Smoking kills 120,000 smokers in the UK each year and is a leading cause of lung cancer, in the light of this the Foundation would find it impossible to endorse your system or to see it as an alternative to the implementation of smoke free work and public places

Thank you for taking the time to contact me and for your invitation to see your product, which I have witnessed in action at our local passport office.

Best wishes for a smoke free future,
Tina

Dear Sirs

my wife and i have just been to sunwin house in stockport cheshire and noticed they had received one of your awards. we then checked your website and found that a place of business can receive a silver award if they have an "area" that is designated for smokers. we feel this defeats the purpose of having a clean air award. the air is not clean and it does not prevent the negative affects of passive smoking. we think this undermines and demans the efforts of roy castle and there should only be awards for completely smoke free facilities. we would welcome your thoughts about our feelings as we have activley supported your enterprises in the past but this would put us off any further support. thank you

Dear Mr and Mrs Reindel,
Thank you for taking the time to contact The National Clean Air Award. Unfortunately Sunwin House does not hold The National Clean Air Award, which does not provide awards for premises with smoking areas. It is possible that they hold another local award whose criteria are less demanding

The criteria for holding The National Clean Air Award are extremely stringent. We do not provide an award to any premises that does not protect everyone from the very real health risks associated with secondhand smoke. The Gold Award is only made to a premises which does not permit smoking anywhere within it's building grounds or car parks.

The Silver Award is provided for a premises which provides external smoking shelters or a completely enclosed indoor smoking room - the criteria here are rigorous and can be viewed in full on this website. The standards set by the National Clean Air Award match the National Template for Smoke Cities/Communities devised by leaders in the field of tobacco control and it is for this reason the National Clean Air Award is the only award endorsed by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and Asthma UK. Both of these organisations are extremely prominent in the battle to eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke.

To ensure that you do enjoy a smoke free break why not visit one of the hotels and guesthouses which do hold the Award - see the directory which can be reached from the home page.
